I fully agree with that.

As I mentioned a few times on this list, when I was an isolated &
ignorant newbie in the late 70's / early 80's, all the basics about analog
electronics I learned came from the Formant manual.
Even if you don't build any of the modules, you can learn the theory
of VCO, VCA, etc. and simultaneously check each module schemo for an
application of the theory.
