nonononono

you connect 
q out (from the middle of the cct) to one side of the pot, other side
to the gnd, and wiper (middle) pin to q in or whatever is the name,
at the input of the cct
 
Look for the Oberheim SEM schematic (should be @ synthfool lite)
you'll get the idea from it's VCF...
