Yea but you have to renew a couple of times during patent ownership if you 
want to keep your patent.  I think you have to renew at 5 years and again 
sometime after that, there's a fee.  The idea (I suppose) being that if you 
aren't making money off of your patent then you'll let it expire and, 
perhaps, become useful to others.
