I agree they are not an ideal solution, but they do work...

PPG used them in all their products :-)
7812 and 7912, for ALL the Wave's , EVUs and most of the other stuff...

Linear PSUs are IDEAL, BUT they are EXPENSIVE, for the beginner the 78xx and
79xx's are ideal..
