Some gear makes it very easy to disconnect the circuit ground from the
chassis while leaving the connection from chassis to Protective Earth
intact. In my Alesis RA-100 amplifier it took just loosening one screw
to disconnect that cable. Obviously it was made that way just for that purpose.
Other gear isn't that friendly. I remember a Mackie mixer causing
trouble, because the circuit ground was connected to the chassis almost
everywhere (at each jack!). The Ensoniq DP/4 is also such a beast.
Perhaps it's because there are "cheater plugs" available in the US, that
in so many American gear Protective Earth is connected to circuit ground?
