even easier to find, would be a 7805.

an old trick of mine, for getting weird (uncommon) voltages, is to take a
78xx regulator, and add a resistor in series with the "ground" pin. this
can be used to get a few extra volts from the regulator.

it's been a while, but i think a few hundred ohms does the trick.
(the more restance, the higher the output voltage.)

when i was in school, i tested it out thouroughly, and the regulation
seems to not be adversly affected, over a wide range of currents.
