No, it is not a direct replacement, but, with a little effort, it could be.
However, 7808 are availiable from Mouser, http://www.mouser.com, and Jameco (try them first),
http://www.jameco.com. Mouser is best place for bulk deals. I can't remember what their onesy-twosy policies
are, but I get stuff from both compaines, as well as Digikey, http://www.digikey.com.
Of course, I am assuming you are in the states. If you are in europe, I will leave it to the europeans to
stear you to the correct place....
