[sdiy] looking for a diy synth useful for lead sounds

I'm looking to build a DIY synthesizer that is preferably polyphonic, and 
is an exceptional source for leads. Does anyone recommend any specific kits 
for this? I considered the FatMan because of it's price, but I don't really 
think it's geared towards the lead sounds I'm trying to find.
