[sdiy] CE approval, was MOTM over time

Hello,
I'm from Switzerland (and back to the list, after a one-year-brake).
Currently I'm busy with the CE-approval and such stuff, too.
I'm going to start a company which builds high quality audio-electronic
devices for professional studio use. Like compressors, a tube
multiband-compressor,
custom designs and so on.
In Europe you need the CE-approval to sell your equipment.
So I did some research about the necessary things you've to do, in order
you're allowed
to put a "CE" sign on your gear.
Lukily in the area of low voltage stuff (73/23/EWG) and EMC (don't know the
document number
right now) you don't have to test your equipment by a such named "notified
body" in most cases.
The manufacturer is allowed to do the tests himself.
I once asked what a test for the EN60065 norm (Security measures in audio
and video
an similar electronic apparatus), done by a such notified body, would cost.
It'll cost about 4000US$.
So then there comes the European Community conformity declaration you've to
write.
Further you've to write detailed technical documents about your device and
so on.
When you've done all this, you're allowed to put the "CE" sign on the back
of your
devices.
But all this you've to do for every new piece of equipment you want to sell.
And for a one man buissines this needs a lot of time.
So briefly, the CE-approval is a self-declaration of the manufacturer. And
as a
manufacturer you're fully responsible for your products, so if you put the
"CE" sign on your stuff but it doesn't meet the lowest security standards
defined in the relevant guidelines (e.g. 73/23/EWG), you could be sued and
finally fined.
