[sdiy] DIY silkscreening at home

Synth DiY WebPages:-The problem I had trying to do home-brew silk screening
is that you really need some large expensive things to get the quality you
want. Doing a couple tee-shirts is one thing but a well done metal panel is
something else entirely.

A vacuum frame to expose the screen; a huge sink to coat , develop and clean
it; a good evenly diffused source of UV light ( mercury arc ); the list goes
on...

I used to own a small copy-print business and still didn't have the
resources to do them properly.

I found that going to local screen shops, you could frequently talk the
owners into doing the work for you for pretty cheap or for a trade. Offer
some computer skills, build some electronics, etc... You will want to buy
the screen and the ink but you should be able to negotiate your way into
using the other resources with little problem.

Another option is that most high schools and colleges have some kind of arts
program and they are always on the lookout for interesting projects to do -
offer to buy the teacher some supplies or something, their budgets are
always tight.

Hi Proto..on my webpages below I discuss various methods involving
toner-transfer process
and my experience with them. I would also like to find out if anyone has a
method of
homebrew silk-screening that works? There was some discussion on the list
in the past about
a diy s-s kit one could buy..but getting good results with it seemed
v.difficult?

Hope you find the link useful,
  cheers

I'm considering all the different ways of applying the print/design
on my future projects. I'd appreciate some general opinions on the different
methods people have found useful.
I'm especially curious about silk screening. Can a hobbyist do this
at home, or does it require serious machinery?
