[sdiy] Data formats in Eprom based drum machines and Romplers

Mu law was commonly used in digital telephony.  It gives a dynamic range
closer to 11 or 12 bits than the 8 bits that it uses.  The Sequential Tom
drum machine used Mu law compression/expansion.
