[sdiy] Data formats in Eprom based drum machines and Romplers

Hi,
I've been investigating the format of data in eproms used in different
drum machines [ the early 8 bit ones ].I seem to have found from the
page at

[ good site about the Oberheim drum machines ].
that there are two main types Mu law and linear .
I can play back the linear samples ok , but I'm interested if anyone is
more familiar with the MU law ones ?
[ I do understand that the Mu law ones are done to increase the
available dynamic range of the samples ].
are there any other formats I should be familiar with ?
I think this would also apply to the samples used in different Romplers
as well ........
anyone done any hacking of these [ maybe you should only reply off list
! ].
on another subject entirely ...........
thanks to the post here about the Theremin event I had a most
interesting Tuesday evening , was great to see different Theremins being
used .
