[sdiy] Paia 9700

I've built the 9700, and I like it. It's great for its price -- two VCO's
and a modulator for ~$120! That's insane. I used them w/ Blacets at a show,
and they were great.

If you have more money, I think the MOTM's are much easier to build -- less
panel wiring, which is the biggest butt-chafer for me. Also, the board parts
are quite spaced apart (which makes soldering very easy) and the kits come
w/ solder and precut/ stripped/ tinned wire (!). I had a working module
(VCA/Ring mod) in two hours, and I haven't been doing this for long. Sorry
to sound like I'm on the payroll, but it made building very very fun! And
really, they're not that expensive, considering the quality of the
components. Built like tanks!

You can check out sound samples on both their websites too.

My two cents,
Scott

The 9700 seems to be pretty nice (I am still building mine...never
seems to be enough hours...), but, I am not too sure if it is a good
first kit or not. It is a pretty big project...on the other hand, if
you aproach it as a one module at a time type project, it might be ok.

I have never seen the FatMan, that seems to be pretty much accepted
as a first kit project.
