Any of you guys also own the CS60? If so, how much of a sound difference is there? And what about the CS40M? Just curious..........

I've played with both. The CS80 is basically like having two CS60s in one with polyaftertouch and a better interface. I was surprised to find that the CS80 was like two separate synths in one package where you can layer the different patches. That abviously has a huge impact on the sound. Just playing one patch, I'm pretty sure they would sound identical. cheers, matrix http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com ____________________________

OK, so here's another question: The ring modulator in mine is not doing what it's supposed to. The attack, decay and depth sliders do not appear to have any effect on the sound. Only the speed and modulation sliders work. Any suggestions?

Hi Gang, Jesus, are you aware that the ring mod is monophonically triggered? The envelope generator will only fire off when a new key or keys are hit after all the keys have been let up first. If you try this style of playing and it still never fires off, than there is a problem with either the circult that derives this mono trigger, or the envelope generator IC in the ring mod has failed. Regarding your earlier question of the heavy action of the CS-80, I, like you, wish that the 80 had more of a synth action keyboard. I don't think there's any way to change this, though, as the CS-80 keyboard is very integrated into the whole system. You would have to come up with some kind of mechanism that took care of the initial touch and after touch. All I could think of is recreating the keys of the keyboard out of a lightweight, non-metallic substance. I can't even imagine how much this would cost. Sorry for all the bad news! Today I had my OB-Xa open and I was listening to the difference between the stereo CEM3360 based output on the synth itself vs. leads going straight to four of the individual voice cards. I was blown away with the difference. I know that there must be allowances for headroom, but the sheer difference in bass and presence... it got me thinking about the CS-80. Has anyone ever evaluated the CS-80's output section this way? Has anyone resorted to wiring the 8 voices straight into their mixer? [w] PS- what's the best way to obtain a copy of the CS-80 instruction manual? ____________________________________________________________________________________ It's here! Your new message!
