What is up with Synth-DIY

What is up with Synth-DIY

2007-05-05 by Grant Richter

I used to be on a mailing list called Synth-DIY.

It seems to have slowly sputtered out.

Did they move servers and you have to re-sub? Anyone have any information?

Thank you!

Hi Grant,

There was an issue a few weeks ago where the server went down and then they had to resub everybody, but there were some folks that got overlooked for whatever reason. THe list is alive and well. Sorry I don't remember how to subscribe, but I'll bet someone here does...

HTH

I received 15 messages on Friday. I know the list changed servers and went
from majordomo to some other type of list sw. Some people had to resub as
a result. It's unclear if things are still working quite right for
everybody. Maybe resubbing might work for you(?)

Here's the text of an email from Rick Jansen, dated 31 March:

=====
The new synth-diy list is up and running, now with MailMan.

I think it is best if you explicitly re-subscribe and choose a password:

<http://dropmix.xs4all.nl/mailman/listinfo/synth-diy>

I'm new to administering MailMan myself, so please bear with some
possible hiccups.

The page <http://dropmix.xs4all.nl/rick/Emusic/Synth-diy/> will be
updated later, reflecting the new MailMan setup.

Please let me know (per private email) if you see things that are wrong?

=====

I have a pretty good feeling you have his email address, but if you don't, I
can send it privately to you.

The old server died in March. Rick Jansen has since replaced it.
The new list has been up and active for a month.

The reason why you don't get any emails is probably the
challenge-response spam filter you use.

1. The mailing list server sends you an email.

2. Your mail server spits back a challenge email.

3. The mailing list server gets your challenge email, has no idea
   what to do with it and files it away in /dev/null.

4. Your mail server gets no response to its challenge so does not
   deliver the mailing list post to you.

For an analysis of the problems with challenge-response filtering,
