Most modern digital cameras work pretty well, including pocket point and shoots. I would tend to avoid the small prosumer 8MP models with the small sensors due to noise levels, although many do not find the images objectionable. ALL the digital SLR's provide excellent images IMO. Most of the pocket point and shoots on the market today in the 4 and 5 megapixels versions are quite good. My cameras are my livelihood and are probably overkill for many users and applications. I use all the Canon DSLR's - 20D, 1DMKII, and 1DsMKII. In my opinion, the best bang for the buck right now is the Canon 20D DSLR. FYI, the battery grip only provides an extra space for a battery, and the convenience of the portrait grip... the frame rate of the camera (~5fps) is the same with or without the grip.
