Using Quadtone Inks on Non Photoshop software

Using Quadtone Inks on Non Photoshop software

2003-05-23 by Vincent

Hi all,
I'm a newbie here,
I want to know if it is possible to obtain good B&W photo using Quadtone
Inks on Epson 1160 and Epson Driver, using 'No Curve Control' software
just like ACDSee or other simple software ?
As I notice most of you using PS with built-in 'quadtone' option and many
other controling tools.
Thanks !

Harry

Try Qimage from ddisoftware.com. It was developed for printing.

Harry:

Short answer is that if you want to use the Epson driver to print
quadtones with your 1160 you will need to be able to apply a single
curve (lumped/non-partitioned workflow) or a curve set (RGB
partitioned workflow). The partitioned workflow converts the
grayscale image into various shades of CMY thus "tricking" the Epson
driver into thinking it is printing CMYB.

There are many lower cost image editors that will allow you to apply
a "canned" curve or curveset other than PS. I personally use Picture
Windows Pro ($90) from www.dl-c.com .
