The 2100 (which I think is the same as the 2200) can be connected to 
USB and Parallel at the same time without problems so I don't see why 
USB and Firewire wouldn't work.

I have a stack of USB devices connected (3 printers, hub, card 
reader, scanner, graphics tablets and the LIBUSB worked OK but it did 
need a reboot before all the devices were working OK.
