re: mod wheel

re: mod wheel

I believe what's happening is the AN200 patch is fine. Summa's
controller is sending the vibrato data. The AN200 is responding. Summa
wants the modwheel to send modulation data to some of synthesizers,
and not to the AN200. So Summa needs one of those remapping tools that
Bruce Wahler sells.

The caveat: I don't know MIDI very well at all.

Usualy Mod-Wheel isn't fixed to any function, it's simply Continous
Conroller #1. It can be used for closing filter, changing the
pulswidth or what ever comes into my mind, at least that's how most
of my synths handle MW input...
Anyway, it still would be nice to have a positive feedback from other
AN200 user, if his box reacts the same way as mine...

What happens when you zero out the modulations from the front panel
of the AN200?

I have not been following this thread close at all. I am not understanding what confirmation you are seeking? I have a AN200, if you could drop me a note via email, I'll set it per your instructions and test it out. I got plenty of external midi items here to send a control into it.

Hi Dale,

To summarize, Summa has an AN200 and regardless of whether he zeroes
out the ModDepth settings from the front panel - or the AN200 editor
module in XGWorks - it still results in a Pitch modulation when the
AN200 receives from the ModWheel CC on his master controller! He has
zeroed out all 16 Sets of settings in the CtrlMatrix too :-/ Very
bewildering?!?

too late in the day here for me to set mine up to check it. yea that is a odd thing, only affecting that sysex.. if there was more combinations I might be inclined to say the controller chip is on the blink.. screwing up certain commands only...

I will save this note and see if I can get some time when I get back from day job tomorrow and try it out and see. I can used midi ox to monitor the midi to see if there is a command out of controllers to set this back up...

I got a problem in project 5 from cakewalk that only seems to affect MMV, start on sequence it sets the master volume to 0. Only that one and only in a certain combination. So I can think about errant commands easy as I chase down the phantom sysex... ;-)

Wont hurt me to give it a try anyway with my an200 to see if it does this or not.

No speedy promises however as I am still not 100%, been under the weather and if I could take off another day I would. Hay fever bad for me this year and has turn into a sinus infection with a touch of bronchitis now. I do feel much better than I did last Wednesday... ;-)

I checked out the DX200 list tonight and found there is a recent
thread on this very subject - seems to be specific to the AN/DX
boxes, they have not arrived at a solution other than to call/email
YCA. Not a bad idea, IMO.

I can run AN Expert Editor under Classic in Panther but it doesn't
behave well with my AN1x due to the SysEx ID. Are you running that
plug-in editor under XGWorks or a stand alone editor - AN1xEdit? Does
your AN200 behave similar to his?

I am on PC, no AN1x either... I been tempted many times to get.. I run all midi via midiman 8x8, 2x2 or direct usb (newer synths and midi controller are direct usb in) work fine for me. So I am using the xglite program that came with it, updated of course. It handles both the an and the dx units well.
I also just added a RM1X to that mix. So there is a A-Frame rack holding, AN200, DX200, Zoom RT323 and a RM1X now. The sequencer rack. ;-) 3 other hardware sequencers are also found in the midi routing, a5000, s-80 and the triton extreme. Software, in most cases I am using Sonar but I do have a lot of other creatures like Project 5 and many synthedit one shot or single riff sequencers to use at will as needed... some just work effects. I decided to go this way instead of grafting more arms and hands on.
There are times when I like to hear the whole thing live at one time so I can tinker with each. Doing the layer thing, one at a time is cool too but there are times when I just want to focus on the whole thing at once. make much noise I do.... ;-)

So you ARE running the plug-in editor under XGWorks.

Does your AN200, or DX200, exhibit the same problem as Summa?

unknown... I am at day job... not sure I will have time to mess with it a bit and see...
I don't recall having a problem with the wheels but I also overlook things very easy once I got the result I am after...

My mod wheel died. I set the ribbon controller for vibrato for now.
Anyone else have this problem?

Sorry to snicker at your difficulties, but I just have this image of you
wailing on that wheel so often that you’ve rubbed the ridges off of it.

Time to take the back off the unit and observe. Check connectivity first –
a wire may have just come loose. If the potentiometer got really dirty, it
might “not work”. You can try spraying some cleaner (available cheap at
Radio Shack) into it. If the pot has totally died, it’s time to check with
Yamahaha.
