Control change mode (ignore other message)

Control change mode (ignore other message)

2000-10-30 by David Bagshaw

It says in the manual to hold the "assign" button while powering up
in order to change the control change mode, and that the mode number
(1 or 2) will appear on the display. I've tried dthis several times
and nothing changes, and nothing appears in the display. is there a
typo in the manual (i.e. is there another way to change to control
change mode 2)?

Thanks,

David

David,
Did you ever get this woring? I tried it again tonight for the 1st time
in months - Turn the power off; hold the ASSIGN button; turn the power
on (while still holding the ASSIGN button.) The display will show which
Control Change Mode the AN1x is in - 1 or 2. Repeat the process to
change back from one mode to the other. The MIDI CC behavior is
documented on Page 9 of the Data List pamphlet. Pretty cool stuff if
you like to record some serious patch changes into a sw sequencer.

All,
This mode change thing does work. I use Mode 2, which has more control
parameters available. Amazing what a guitar synth controller can do with a
synth like the AN1x.

Actually, Jon, no, it still doesn't work. There is no difference in
the display whether I press assign or not. Somewhat annoying, at this
point. I'd love to find out what I'm doing wrong. I tried to get help
at the Yamaha U.S. site, but I'm Canadian, and they won't offer
support to me. The Yamaha Canada site is dreadful.

Thanks for your help anyway Jon, for your site and for your
contributions to this one.

That's disappointing to hear regarding Yamaha Tech Support. My
experiences have all been positive - I wonder whay the lack of
consistency? Anyway...are you hodling the ASSIGN button down the entire
time it takes for the AN1x to power on? On my unit the display show
"Ctrl Mode mode2" for a couple of seconds before the display switches
to the last used Voice.

Oh yeah, I'm holding it alright. It's very strange, cause the assign
switch works fine. The one thing I haven't tried is re-initializing
after backing up my patches. That may do it.
