It's been said before, but replacement springs are available from UK RLMusic. I've arranged to buy one, it's $285 US. Kinda pricey but have not found a cheaper alternative. The RL spring is not identical to the original, but RL states they installed over 100 of them going back more than seven years with no defects or problems.
If anyone else wants to buy the RL springs, would it make sense to combine and ask for a bulk discount?
Also, if there is a cheaper alternative for the original spec part I would like to hear more about it. Thanks, scott
