Subject: Re: [yamahacs80] CS 80 Ribbon controller
I have a couple of springs for spare, could trade one for rare ICs or sell if somebody need it.
The replacement, yes, is a little tricky, not for the faint-hearted but feasible.
I replaced the one in a friend's CS60 very successfully (I am not a professional tech, a medium level analogue fan).
You have to solder the two spring ends to the extreme pieces of metal that fit at the sides of the black case. The case itself can be opened by carefully unscrewing the locking screws.
You have to apply a light tension at the spring, that, having a larger diameter than the available space inside the case, will result with oblique coils.
The operation needs 4 hands at least, two keeping the two pieces of the case together, two maintaining the spring taut in place, two in praying position :-)
Trial and error…
Ciao
