Hi... I can barely remember how I did it. I asked someone who recently did the job (Fernando) to check out your post. Maybe he'll chime in.
Here are some vague steps (reconstructed from one of Fernando's old emails, a phone conversation with Kent Spong, and some fading memories...)
1) desolder three connector wires
2) gently remove the velvet cover - I think you can basically peel it off - go slow and carefully so you don't rip it. it's kind of resistant, but it does come off.
3) partially unscrew the screws in both sides of the plastic case
4) detach the side metal clips on both sides (to which the spring is soldered on both sides)
5) solder in the new spring.... OK, actually, this is the tricky part. You have to take note of how the ends of the old spring are bent and bend the new ones exactly the same.
6) reinstall... I think I superglued the velevt back on... can't remember.
Caveats:
1) my ribbon controller is still messed up. The pitch warbles all over the place. But I think this is a problem with the circuit, not with my repair.
2) I barely remember doing this procedure... but I think most of it is intuitive, apart from the how the heck do I bend this thing correctly step.
3) ... consequently, the steps might be incorrect... though I think they are basically on target.
I hope this helps...
Oh, and if anyone can tell me if they have experienced this warbling ribbon controller issue before (it functions, but the pitch is not steady), please let me know what the issue was...
My ring mod also just started only working on and off, so I think there is probably some deep rooted problem in the synth :(
best - Damon
