Subject: Re: [yamahacs80] VCF Calibration Procedure - Can anyone help?

Congratulations for getting your CS-80!

I've never gone through the filter cal procedure end-to-end, but I have always thought that the service manual's VCF vcalibration procedure is correct and works. If it seems to not work, maybe there is a setting that needs to be changed or made during the procedure tha the tech missed, or, worse, there is a system level problem casuing the VCFs to be untuneable.  I could be wrong.  This procedure is extremely time consuming (which is one reason I've never done it, as no one would be willing to pay for the time it would take).  If your tech just did it by ear, I would think that you would find that, as you change to various VCF envelope settings and cutoffs, you would find differences between the vocies even if the tech thought they had it nailed by ear.  It would be because there are so many possible settings, that the tech can only pick a few typical settings and try to make them sound good.
