Subject: Yamaha YC30 ribbon controller question

From: "Wavecomputer360" <wavecomputer360@...>

Hi all,

I´m currently in the process of dusting off my old YC 30 which has been sitting unused in storage for a couple of years. When opening it, I couldn´t help marvel at the amount of engineering that must have gone into this instruments. Miles and miles of point-to-point wiring, massive key sensors, an even more massive solenoid (wonder what it is good for?), absolutely wonderful. I´ve also got the 45 but, funny as it may seem, the 30 has always been dearer to my heart (and ear).

Does anybody have an idea as to how to refurbish the ribbon controller in it? It is not the same type of ribbon that was used on the YC45D and CS60/80 but it´s apparently the same model that was also used on the EX42 (and GX1, perhaps?). It´s slightly wider, and there is no tangible wire in it. I guess there´s some resistive foil on one side of it and some type of carbon coating on the other. It plays slightly intermittently in some places so I would like to fix this, if possible. Any advice?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen.
