wow-thanks kent, never would have known that.(is that a cs80-specific thing, or do you suggest direct soldering any IC in a PSU?)
so can i assume that caps and opamps are the only things vulnerable to age problems in the PSU?

Don't socket them as they will fail due to the heat from the power supply. They need to be soldered in only.
