Subject: hello I'm new

Hello, I recently got a Korg Polysix. I make Industrial music and a lot of my songs have really loud droning bass sounds. Which it is great for. My only other keyboard until recently was a yamaha psr220 which is pretty weak compared to the polysix.
I make sounds using cool edit and you can do some really cool stuff if you hook the polysix up to it. I've also got a roland alpha juno1 but I like the Korg better. I think it's a lot more brutal sounding and I like all the controls to play with. The Juno1 sounds a bit synthetic and plasticy and the buttons are a bit annoying.

I bought it knowing it had the "classic battery problem" but didn't know what that meant.
It was quite messed up and most of the controls didn't work. I got my friend to fix it. It didn't have a battery inside and there was hardly any leakage or corrosion. Someone had also cut the wire that connects the effects board to the main circuit board.
It works now but the higher notes sound all discordant and Dalek-ish. They sounded fine before it was fixed though.

Also, you can save sounds into it while it is switched on but if you turn it off it wipes them.
Does anyone know what could be causing these things?
I read how to fix it on Old crows.net and I replaced the nicad with the 3v coin cell.
If the coin cell battery was put in the wrong way (i.e positive in negative) could that be the cause of it forgeting all the sounds I've made?
Are any of these symptoms familiar to anyone?
thanks
bye
Rat
