Subject: Replacing the Keybed

From: "chipaudette" <chipaudette@yahoo.com>

I'm continuing to make progress in my efforts to replace the stock keybed in my Polysix with an aftertouch and velocity sensitive Fatar keybed.

The only people that I could find to sell me a 61-key Fatar keybed with aftertouch were the folks from keyparts.co.uk. They bent over backwards to get the keybed to me here in the USA. They're definitely great folks over there at Keyparts.

The keybed itself is fantastic, but requires a small amount of physical modification to get it to fit in the Polysix. If you're interested, you can see the mods here:

As for hooking it up electrically, the folks at Keyparts also sell a keyscanning board that'll scan the keys (with both attack velocity ∗and∗ release velocity!) and issue the notes via MIDI. I've already implemented an Arduino system (discussed in a previous post here) that replaces the Polysix's key assigner, allowing me to control the Polysix via the MIDI commands. That's how the new keybed will control my Polysix. So far, it actually seems to be coming together!

Has anyone else ever replaced the keybed in their polysix? Is there anything that I need to look out for?
