I was amazed last week when I saw that the original battery on my like new
Polysix is still in one piece, and still holding a charge.
It may be the only blue NiCad that lasted thirty years.
With instructions from Scott rider and some help from a technician friend,
we removed the old battery and installed the three volt CR2032 lithium
battery modification. All it needs now is a tiny bit of calibration.
Has anyone here done their own calibration? If so, can you tell me what
tools are required? Will I need to use an oscilloscope?
I have also started working on trying to repair my three dead Polysixes.
One is in ok condition. The other two were always a bit rough looking, but
they all sounded great when I first got them.
That was back when you could pick one up for about $100.00, so I bought
every one that I could find here in Savannah.
I had to pay a bit more for the good one, but it was still only $250.00.
I think it was 1997 when I bought it, and it still looks as good as it did
in 1982.
There is a guy on Youtube (user name Syntegrator) who has a series on
restoring three Polysixes, one of which was in extremely rough condition.
I don't really want to modify this good one, but if I can revive the others,
I may consider some of the hardware options like the new
KiwiTechnics Polysix upgrade.
Their news section as of June 2012 says.......
Final version boards are being made and development is on hold until these
arrive. The back bone of the code is done with all major sections working
and it is in the testing and finishing stage.
