Welcome to the list!
Great that you could fix your Polysix.
The behaviour that you observe seems normal and intended to me. When
playing one note in POLY mode one voice is sounding; so you hear a
clear tone. When playing a note in UNISON mode all six voices are
sounding. Since these are six independent oscillators you can expect
some minor tuning differences which result in a slight beating in the
tone. Additionally the oscillators are slightly detuned in UNISON mode
for adding even more beating and richness. This is what a truly analog
instrument is capable of!
You can check the following:
- press POLY
- press HOLD
- play 6 times the same key on the keyboard
- press CHORD MEMORY
When now playing a note all six voices sound together the same tone but
without the detuning feature of the UNISON mode.
Play notes over the full keyboard scale and check the beating. It is
OK for a little beating but it should not be unpleasant.
Nevertheless it might be necessary that your Polysix needs a
tuning/recalibration. Check the tuning with a tuner in POLY mode and
with the stretch tuning switch on KLM-366 OFF (move switch lever to the
rear of the Polysix). Observe the LEDs on KLM-366 which show you which
voice is active.
Have fun with your truly analog synthesizer!
