Yes, it's normal and the way it is supposed to be.
From the User Manual:
"At 8 or above the pulse width becomes so narrow as to collapse, which
produces sound and in effect shuts off the VCOs."
Of course this should probably read "no sound" because otherwise it
wouldn't make much sense, would it?
