Hi everyone,
Here's a quick update on the new KLM367 PCB project:
On Friday I sent off newly created gerber files to get a couple prototype boards fabricated. I should get the prototypes back around August 5th.
Andrew Jury has been working on a new parts lists. We're just about done sourcing some of the hard-to-find components. Once the prototypes come in, Andy and I will each build one and test the circuit. We may need to make some modifications depending on how things go.
Because of this necessary testing, and potential revisions, I don't have a firm date on when we'll have something to offer folks -- only that we are still working, but things are coming along.
The process of creating a new bill of materials has been useful in thinking through what exactly we are going to offer. At this point, it seems most likely that there will be three product offerings:
1) A bare PCB (we'll also provide the Bill of Materials for you to order components)
2) An "exchange-repair" where we take some of the expensive and hard-to-find parts off an old board (assuming they are still usable) and put them on a new board
3) A complete replacement with all new components
Andy will likely offer the complete replacement and the "exchange-repair" option, while I'll offer just the bare PCBs. I can't yet give a firm quote on what these various options will cost, but I can ∗speculate∗ that the ∗bare boards∗ will cost somewhere around $25 each depending on how many we end up making. The other options will be more expensive.
To start nailing down quantities and costs, and to understand how many people will be interested in each option, I've created a "KLM367 Pre-Orders" database here on the PolySix group site.
If you think you are going to want to be part of this offer, please click on the "Database" link from the PolySix group home page, click on the pre-orders database, and click "Add Record" to add your information. I've asked for what country you are in so I can think about shipping costs too. This is NOT a binding commitment since I can't tell you how much things will cost at this point (but we are trying to keep costs as low as possible).
Thanks for the continuing interest in this project. I'm looking forward to being able to share more good news soon.
Best,
Jed Jorgensen
