Hi Sophie (and Andy!),
Does your Polysix have a MIDI retrofit by chance?
I have a Kenton retrofit in mine. There is a switch on the back to toggle between INTERNAL clock for the arpeggiator, and MIDI clock.
If the switch is engaged with no MIDI clock present, the arp will seem to not work, playing just the one note you play.
Along this same thought, if your clock input jack is bad, meaning that it's stuck with the internal clock "switched out" of the circuit, the end result will be the same.
If you have anything that outputs a trigger pulse (drum machine, etc.) I would try clocking the arp with an external source-- might narrow down the problem a bit more...
Good Luck!
Robert
