Replacing the poly6's supply with a wall wart is not really that good
of an idea, though you could do it.

I highly doubt that your replacement power cord has anything to do
with the arp not working. Though, I've seen stranger things happen.
I suggest using a computer power cord, as they can be found anywhere.
