Hi,
I do not want to discouorage you, but I do not believe that it is
the KLM-367's CPU. This does only the programmer. You can check
it very easily:
1) If you have an oscilloscope, put one probe to TP4 and trigger
on this signal. There should be a narrow pulse about every 20msec.
The other probe connect to TP2. Obtain GND at TP3.
On TP2 you can see the multiplexed control voltages coming out of
the programmer CPU. Now turn knobs on the control panel and you see
a corresponding bar moving up and down between -5 and +5V.
2) If you do not have an oscilloscope you can measure on CN05 (green
wires to KLM-366) single control voltages. The connector contacts
are labeled on the PCB, e.g. EG INT is pin10. Moving knobs on the
control panel should result in a moving corresponding control
voltage -5 ..+5V.
If this does work then IC22 (8048 CPU) is OK. If not then you may want
to go for a new CPU, which can be difficult because you need a correctly
programmed CPU. Either you watch out for a cannibalised Polysix or you
get a 8748, which is the EPROM version of the chip. This can be really
difficult as it is very outdated. Nowadays people make their homebrew
micro stuff with PICs or the like. Then you have to have the programming
file a possiblity to program it. So before going through all this and
then finding out that it was not the reason it is worth to look a bit
deeper into it and check for other causes...
As I know from repairing some battery-leakage victims, IC31 is the first
candidate to be replaced. It acts as a data bus buffer and all the data
is passing through it.
An even more simple check of functionality of IC22 CPU is whether it is
possible to change patches in the sense that the correct LEDs within
the PATCH an BANK buttons come up.
If yes then IC22 is OK.
If no then first check for correct CPU clock and RST signals (perform
RESET adjustment as given in the service manual).
If you have no sound at all for no obvious reason, check the Tape Enable
(nTE) signal, which comes from the TAPE ENABLE switch, disables the
overall VCA via IC5 and IC35 and holds the voices' gate latches (IC4,
IC5 on ∗KLM-366∗) in reset state.
Good luck!
