The battery leak on my Polysix was very hard to see, but it damaged
the memory circuit board and the nearest chip underneath so that I
had complete sound loss and several memory lights lighting up at the
same time. The damage screwed up the memory board so that the poor
thing didn't know what settings to use and went silent instead.
Just in case someone doesn't know this yet: if you have a Polysix
that has never had the battery replaced, DO IT NOW. The battery is
more than 20 years old and just waiting to leak corrosively all over
the memory circuit board. If it hasn't done so yet, you've been lucky
- but it won't last. I found this out the hard way (luckily I had my
patches backed up just recently and a soldering wizard of a friend to
do the repair job properly).
Now it works perfectly again with a modern metal hydride battery, but
it was a much bigger soldering & chip-replacing job than just
replacing the old battery before it leaks. There are excellent
