From: Rory McDonald <rmcdonald@...>
Date: 2003-05-20

Wow, I heard Eddie Jobson play this CS80 at a Jethro Tull concert back in the 70's!
If only I had the funds....

Subject: [oldsynth] Eddie Jobson Yamaha CS80 benefit auction

Special Eddie Jobson auctions

Would you like to own a piece of progressive rock history?

Keyboard legend Eddie Jobson will be auctioning off his Hammond C3
organ and Yamaha CS80 synthesizer via eBay, and will be kindly
donating a generous portion of the proceeds to the not-for-profit
progressive rock festival NEARfest. Whether you are a keyboardist
looking to own a wonderful instrument loaded with prog history for
your future recording projects and live shows, or are a prog fan of
means looking to own a unique collectors' item, please consider
bidding in Eddie's auctions.

1. HAMMOND C3 ORGAN
This is one of two mid-1950's Hammond C3s customized by Pro-Co of
Kalamazoo, Michigan in the mid-'70s. The first went to Rick Wakeman
in 1976, the second to Eddie Jobson in 1977. The Hammond has enhanced
percussion, direct output with built-in phaser and remote volume
pedal connection. Painted black. Custom presets. Featured on UK's
albums "UK", "Danger Money" and "Night After Night." Notable
tracks: "Time to Kill", "Nothing to Lose", "Danger Money", "Carrying
No Cross" and "Night After Night." In storage since 1979's "Night
After Night" Japanese tour/recording. Motor will need oiling before
use. Comes with flight case. No Leslie, bass pedals, music stand or
bench. Buyer pays shipping from Los Angeles (weighs approx. 430 lbs.
without case).
Starting bid: $3,000

2. YAMAHA CS80 SYNTHESIZER
This is the actual CS80 that helped put CS80s on the map. The very
first one sold in England and used to such great effect on the first
UK album in 1977. The mighty CS80 was the flagship of Yamaha's newly
developing line of analog synthesizers; a direct descendent of the
$60,000 GX1. It was one of the earliest polyphonic synthesizers and
features a weighted 61-note keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch,
custom settings, stereo chorus, ring modulator and unique "touch
anywhere" ribbon controller. Jobson used this particular instrument
to help create the sound of UK on "UK", "Danger Money" and "Night
After Night" (Live in Japan). Also featured heavily on
Jobson's "Green" album and Jethro Tull's "A" album and tour. Major
rock-keyboard moments: the intros to "Alaska" and "Danger Money."
Also, the sound of "In the Dead of Night", "Presto Vivace", "By the
Light of Day", "Night After Night" and Jobson's own "Resident." Comes
with flight case and original manual. Buyer pays shipping from Los
Angeles (weighs approx. 220 lbs without case).
Starting bid: $2,500

Once the auctions are active, in about one week's time, we will post
the eBbay URLs here. Please tell your keyboardist friends about this
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Peace
