If this has the usual two-buss keyboard (with two contacts for eachkey:  one for the note, and one to trigger),  then it's likelythat the note contact for middle c is not making contact (broken or bent)-- this would result in the effect you describe, since most of thoseolder synths have a "note memory" that retains the last controlvoltage until a new one is played.
