Or a broken pad (if soldering)... or intermittent solder short... Or abroken wire, or if socketted chips, a bent lead (it happens, believe me)which was making contact but isn't now... Come to think of it, if therewas a weak solder joint even with sockets, just removing the chips and pushingin new ones could break the joint...
Get a magnifying glass and inspect all of the joints...
