Subject: Re: [newmellotrongroup] String sound on "Never Comes the Day"

Tom-
A late response.  Just curious, did your Nord Wave come with all the 'Tron sounds, or were they on a disc or download?

Yeah, my references are to the Streetly library.
Mr. Kean's Mellotron listing is confusing, and so are the library sounds.  I wonder where he got his sound descriptions from?  Were they written on the master tape boxes, and/or passed down from Les Bradley?  His "String Section" and String Section 2" seem like Streetly's "String Section" & "String Section w/o Cello" respectively.  Kean's "M300A" and "M300B Strings" both seem to have 2 violins each, but are diferent recordings.  Kean's "M300A Strings" may be 2 violas (contrary to the library description of 3 violins, violas & 'cello).  The weird thing is that the Kean's "M300B Strings" compares closest to Streetly's "M300A 2 violins"!!   Kean doesn't have a "M300B Solo Violin" like Streetly, but his "Solo Violin" sounds the same.
Then there's Kean's "Solo Viola" recording, which sounds like a 'cello on the lowest sample note!  Let's mix it up!
But, I have respect for both companies for keeping up the sounds, history and tradition.

Thanks Bruce! I'm going to have to try the M300A , which I do already
have!?! It's possible that I didn't recognize it because of Pinder's
handling of it. I have some confusion over the M300 strings-from what i
could make out there appears to be an A version which is 2 violins, a B
version which is solo and a String section which is split in three
parts-violin , viola and cello. Mellotron archives and Streetly seem to be
at odds with how these are labeled. I played a solo violin on the 300 up
at the Mellotron Ranch and really loved it, it's on my Nordwave as solo
violin M300 and it sounds like the M300b that is on the Streetly tape
library.
