Now youmade me dig out a photo I have to double check my memory (knowing how crappythat can be these days)….It’s the Moodies at the Shrine Expo Hall (nextto the Shrine Auditorium, former home of the Oscars) in LA circa 1968. R to L:John with P-Bass and HiWatt (pretty sure – photo is a bit obscured) stack,Justin with Tele (no 335 to be seen) and Marshall stack, Graeme with early logoon kick with one hang-tom and one floor tom, Ray with flute and mic, and Mikewith Marshall head on the Mk II facing the rest of the band with a fullMarshall stack at the back of the stage – kind of a wall of very loudamps with Graeme nestled in between. The fellow who took the shot told me aboutbeing there: the PA had taken a dump and the whole audience at this multi-band,standing-only show finally sat down on the floor to wait. A half hour passedand the first sound to come back to life was the mellotron – and he saidit was a bit eerie as the entire sea of people rose as one when the ‘tronsound washed over the crowd….sounds like a good thing to me……
Wish I was there….
