I also love EG and OP.  Monk just sounds so schizo to me, in a good way.  He almost sounds nuts at times, and I like that. OP is like a down comforter on a cold winter night, you spend all day thinking about it.

Maybe Errol Garner, and most definitely Oscar Peterson. Although when you are up at that level, it’s like you say Jesus, I say Mohammed. Room for more than one for sure. Not to say that the Monk is not sitting right up there with them. I will have to spend a little more time with his stuff.

Oh man!  If I could be a jazz pianist, it would be Monk! Nobody, before or since, can solo like him. I would have loved to have heard him collaborate with say, Richard D James.

My interest in progressive rock and other pop groups in the 70's, directly and indirectly influenced me to become interested in jazz music.  Thelonious Monk is one of my favorites.
