Sean,

I've recorded a ton of Mellotrons over three decades. My favorite resultswere when I recorded a DI, and send the other feed to a PA, stereo mic'din a great sounding room. The PA was loud enough to get the room moving, but not loud enough to allow the ambience to get too crazy. We did acouple of passes, and blended the two signals in the mix. The key tomaking this work was to record the drums in the same room. The integrityof the room sounds between the drum room mics, and the tron PA mics wasspectacular.

If I were to do the same setup today, I'd probably m/s the mics.

I'm a pretty busy mix engineer, and do a fair amount of production work,so feel free to contact me off list if you have any questions. I'd loveto help a fellow Tron fan!

Taking this moment to rave a bit. Bit excited right now.

Tomorrow afternoon (or your equivalent, I'm in California) my band we'restarting to record. Hoping to get an EP out of it, but we do have to doit all ourselves. We've all dabbled a bit with recording and such, but toget a quality product this is going to be taxing!

There are four tracks slated to be smeared with mellotron. (Or rathersamples on my laptop. And no, in the mix I can't tell the diff.) Mosttracks to be smeared with gobs of clonewheel Hammond. (And VB3 is sogood, I can't tell the diff in isolation!) Maybe toss in some mandolin(real) and harmonium (again fake, cuz antique stores are exspensive) ifthose tunes are rehearsed enough. Lots of real flute. Should be goodtimes.

Is there anyone willing to give audio engineer type advice either on oroff list? We'll probably need it at several points. Thanks!

-Sean
