Bernie -

No. It's kind of hard to describe what it sounds like. The harmonies are incredibly close and tight, so instead of sounding big, it actually sounds kind of small and thin. Think of the background "Ahhhs" on 10cc's "I'm not in Love" and you're pretty close. Depending on how you adjust the tone control, sometimes it doesn't even sound like voices at all.

To be honest, I was kind of disappointed by it at first. But I did find that when you use the half-speed option on Markus' machine, the tape delivers this very cool, otherwordly ambient sound that can be very useful if you need that type of sound in your music.

Hope that helps.

Rick

Does it sound like 8 Choir with Boys Choir?

The Chamberlin Violins are the same as the MkII Violins, but at least one generation newer. They sound somewhere between the M400 Violins and the MkII Violins. In my "purist" past, I would have ordered untuned tapes, but it's worth it to get tuned tapes. I'm pretty sure yours will default to tuned tapes.

I have a m400 with two sets of tapes in my attic recording studio. Works ok but I have to futz with it a lot, but I knew when I bought it that there was going to be a learnig curve. I just love it. One set of tapes is the standard flute, cello, and strings. The other set is kinda weird. It has six sounds each divided at the center key, plus some sound effects at the end of one of the sounds. How common was that? The crappy part about that is that the sound effects are on the choir half, leaving me only an octave of choir, I wish it had been the flutes! The choir is my favorite sound, so I just ordered a new set of tapes with full choirs from Markus Resch. I look forward to reading and hopefully getting a few question answered.
