I'm sure that's it. You start hearing one problem and then become over-attuned to everything else, and the fact that the Mellotron isn't exactly tuned doesn't help it a bit. After a while you kind of settle down and the next thing it's all fine. Weird beyond weird.

'twat that I knew' - who had a hugely accurate sense of pitch and who had to give up on music simply because
everything sounded like this to him. I'd hate to have that sort of talent.
