My latest trick for long flight amusment is to get some noise-cancelling headphones
(Sennheiser and others make some good ones) and run a copy of ReBirth-338 on my
laptop. It doesn't provide the same kind of release as soldering but it passes the
time in a musically related way and you can take the tracks back to your studio
afterwards. It certainly gets some curious looks from the passengers in the
neighboring seats ;) Another alternative would be to play around with a software
synth like VAZ or Reaktor. Yes, it isn't analog but in the audio environment of a
noisy plane it may not be bad and you can practice your "modular chops"
