I'm speaking only from hearsay. I have a tube of 4558's, but all one
type and can't make a side by side comparison, but my understanding is
that the holy grail of 4558's is the JRC4558 with no date code.
I don't have a clue as to what the date code looks like. I know
that these are commanding high prices at various places on the web.
Jack Orman's general thrust was that placing a small resistor in series
with the parallel diodes in the feedback path of the opamp could
eliminate
the perceived differences in various makes of 4558's when used in a
common distortion circuit.

∗Help∗! Need more modules. Whatever is in stock. Must have more.
I only have four unbuilt MOTM modules and I don't know what I will
do come Saturday...
BTW, would it help to send back any of the packaging? All those
nicely labeled "MOTM-xxx RESISTORS", "MOTM-xxx CAPACITORS",
etc? Maybe my wife has finally converted me to the ultimate
recycling fanatic, we have more recycling than trash.
