1. Because there's no buffered multi in motm format, should I worry
about weakening signals when using MOTM modules?
Buffered multis are a current hot button, but unless you're regularly multi-ing 12-more things together, you'll probably never notice the difference. If you're modular gets to the size that buffered multis are required, you'll probably find a way to shoehorn one of the existing systems into it.
2. I probably won't do this, but I could do a DIY motm module and use
1/8'' jacks instead of 1/4'' jacks without any complications provided
I create my own panels?
Sure, as long as you use switching jacks in the appropriate places. Physically the sizes are different, but electrically they're the same.
3. I know that the Plan B oscillator is beefier-sounding than the
Doepfer A-110 oscillator. It's a tiny difference, but it's noticeable.
Do you think motm VCOs have any advantages in terms of raw sound?
I don't have the experience to answer this. However, I do really like the sound of my motm 300's, and think that you should get at least one and do the comparison yourself.
4. In motm format, I can't seem to find any simple modules that are
good for inverting a signal. What do you suggest for inverting a
signal? Should I keep some of my eurorack modules for this or are
there any DIY stuff available?
Doesn't the 830 mixer do this?, I'm not sure, it's not something I've had much use for.
5. Are there any quirks about any MOTM modules, good or bad, that
aren't immediately obvious?
Yes. Next question? Seriously, there are plenty of both. Like the S/H on the 101 triggering on the back end of the clock signal, unlike most of the rest of the ones out there. Or the inputs of my 440 acting like a ring modulator when more than one input is used and the levels are turned all the way up (Bug? or Feature? You decide). Hey, it's a modular synth - we WANT quirks!
