Subject: Stooge cabinet prototype photo

Well, my cabinet maker is getting bored with making the same cabinets over
and over. So, I decided to give him a break after I pick up the balance of
the 4 he just completed and have him work on my personal cabinets.

So, I am sharing a photo and information about my design just as general
interest. I have three cabinets now, each 24U wide holding a total of 96U
of modules. I have exceeded that capacity some time ago. When my system is
complete, I have a total of 7 cabinets. That will include the 3 large ones
I have now, and two pairs of wing cabinets. Capacity will be up to 168U of
modules.

Many of you have seen my four-row system in the various AHMW photos from
this year. I hope to have my photos on line in a few days. But, I took
time out from packing stuff for shipment today to put the design that has
been in my head for some time into real form using cheap MDF to see how my
concept would work in real life.

The idea is to have a lower cabinet that slants inward like a Roland System
700, yet adjoins the slant back of my somewhat Moog-like cabinet design.
With the double slant, I knew this would result in what I call a stadium
corner which is an inverted triangle space in each corner. I plan to use
that for joysticks and manual pushbuttons and such fun. Of course, the
cabinet must support the magic buss. :-)

The width of the lower wing cabinet is only enough for 2 rows of 8U each.
However, the width was chosen as to have a top width at the face that is
exactly the right size to put a cabinet made for 19" rack mounting. The two
stadium wing corner cabinets will each have a 19" 12U tall rack cabinet
(same walnut). I will use those on each side to mix and match MOTM modules
on rack rails and the 19" gear like my Kenton pro-2000 and vocoder. The 12U
tall 19" rack units will be the same height as my top two one row x 24U
middle cabinets so that the height all the way round will be the same.

Here is the photo. The corner is not exactly correct in the prototype as I
forgot to allow for the 45" cut on the side board and started with it too
narrow. But, you can see the concept.

Enjoy, or not.
