Subject: PSIM-1 Stooge panels

OK, I know some of you are ordering PSIM-1 modules without front panels /
jacks / controls. We intend to make Stooge panels for these. It is our
intention to provide the panel with the DB-9 connector cut out before the
panel is even painted. All other holes are round and can be either drilled
by the end user or by professional Stooge drillers ("professional Stooge" -
Is that an oxy-moron?)

I am attaching links to some proposed panels for your consideration. This
is not so much as list to pick from, but rather a collection of panels Dave
suggested, some modifications I threw together, and those submitted by those
wanting to buy the panel. The idea is to generate discussion (off list
responses to Dave and I please), about what you would like to see in a front
panel.

Here are some issues to realize and think about:
1. The LEDs are on a PCB. The spacing and arrangement is fixed.
Orientation is not. PCB is 0.5" x 2.5" with LEDs on a 0.3" center spacing
grid.
2. The DB9 is on the right side of the PCB. The PCB extends 2.5 wide from
one edge of the DB9. That must be taken into account in the panel layout.
3. Some of the panel designs feature 4 pots. These are simply CV sources
normally connected to the 4 inputs which would be disconnected if a plug was
inserted into the CV input. Of course, it would be simple enough for those
interested to build summing amps on a separate PCB allow both panel CV and
incoming CV to be summed. I have no plans, but offer this as a DIY
alternative for those interested in having the controls on the panel. You
will notice to accomplish that task. UEG size control are needed.

An alternative to the controls on the panel, is to simply have a separate 1U
panel with standard MOTM size controls with 4 pots and 4 jacks (same layout
as 800 EG). This panel would be 4 CV sources you could use for your PSIM-1
or something else. That makes a lot of sense since some people will want
controls and others will not.

Here are the initial ideas that have been generated:
